Routing for Binding & Purfling : Day 2

Friday, July 25th, 2008:

Today, I.....

  1. routed the purfling ledges on the top (BWB/BWB) and the back (BWB)
  2. spent a little time fine-tuning the purfling ledge on the upper bout of the non-cutaway side of the back (it was a little shallow and sometimes a little wide)
  3. bent the non-cutaway side bindings in the bender, and later checked them for fit (they fit fine!)
  4. chiseled out the slot for the curly koa end graft, fit the graft, and glued it in
  5. extended the end graft into both binding slots by the width of the side purfling
  6. mitered the end graft purflings

Here are the photos!!!

Tomorrow I will bend the cutaway side bindings (that's a two-step process, as I do part of the bend in the regular bender, and the cutaway horn part in the special bender I had made). Then, I will move on to dry-fit and glue the bindings & purflings in!!!
