Sunday, July 19th, 2009: Well, I have to admit — I spent a bit of time today procrastinating the next step. I was nervous about sanding the volute into its rounded shape. I've never had any real problems with it the few times I've done this so far, but, for some reason, it still always makes me very nervous. I keep thinking I'm going to slip and oversand or move it a little too much as I use the belt sander to round out that volute — and that I might end up sanding too far into the nut area — and then I'd mess up the all that work I've put into the neck so far. So...this morning I procrastinated. But it came out okay! I just took a deep breath, prayed my eyes and my hands would work smoothly, and just did it. Here it is:

Obviously, I also drilled the tuner holes through the backstrap. Here's how the front of the peghead looks now:
NOW it's time to carve the neck (I'm not nervous about this at all)!!!!
