Friday, July 10, 2009: Yesterday, before I left for the Ed Gerhard concert, I discovered I needed to modify the holding cradle (seen below) for the smaller size of this guitar. (It just involved drilling new holes on the base to place the standing bolts in new locations.) Below, you see me checking to make sure that the guitar body's sides are set so they're perpendicular to the base. I have a flush-cutting bit with a roller bearing in the laminate trimmer of my router jig. I just finished using this jig to trim the overhang of the top and the back.

WE NOW HAVE A SOUNDBOX!!! YAY!!! Here are a few quick photos. When I thump the top now, it sounds like a C# note! (And the back thumps to the same note.) Now it's on to measuring for the binding and purfling channels, bending my binding, and routing the binding/purfling ledges (gulp!). I plan to use the same bloodwood binding I used for my classical two summers ago. |
