The Neck

Saturday, June 16th, 2001

The first thing I did this morning was to joint and glue the spruce top halves and the maple back halves.

While those are glued up, I set about working on the neck. To the right is the 1-1/2" by 2-1/2" block of maple for the neck, wrapped with carbon paper and the neck template pattern. After tracing the outlines, I removed the papers.

Below is the result. I have drilled the four tuning peg holes with a 3/16" bit.

To the right is the rough neck after I have cut it out with the bandsaw. Next I will file and smooth the scroll area, so I can transfer the lines for carving the scroll later.
