THE NECK:

Here I'm gluing the scarf joint of my neck:

I've routed out the 1/4" deep slot for the .20" carbon fiber rod I got from Stew-Mac.

Well, I'm back . . . . I've spent the last week finishing up Tracy's ukulele and getting my house painted and my yard worked on. This week I got back to my own uke. Here are some more photos.

I have routed the binding channels, using my Don Williams' binding router jig , and here it is after I've scraped down the plastic tortoise shell binding.

Here are all the parts for forming the peghead. First, I made a plywood template of the peghead shape. Then I used the template and my Robo-Sander sanding drum to shape the koa peghead veneer (on which I had already sanded the angle that would butt up against the nut). I used little dowels (actually, bamboo skewers) to fix the veneer to the template. Next, I glued the peghead ears to the 2" wide peghead blank, and when that was dry, sanded it flush front and back. I then glued the koa veneer to the front of the peghead surface, glued the mahogany veneer to the back surface, and used the koa veneer as the template to shape the peghead.
