Session #8

Sunday, June 7th, 2015:

RANDALL HAS COMPLETED HIS SOUNDPORT!!!

Below, he is trimming the overhang of the back in the area where the soundport will be, so that it will not impede the movement of the Dremel router base as he routs out the soundport.

Here he has taped his soundport template to the outside of the upper bout. He has also put some masking tape on the inside of the area, to minimize any chipout as he routs the hole.

Here he is using the Dremel with a 1/8" router bit to rout out the soundport hole, little by little.

About half-way there!!!!

The hole is completely routed out, the tape removed, and the edges nicely beveled.

The final result ---- VERY NICE!!!!

Another shot of the completed soundport!!!

Now that the soundport is routed out, Randall can proceed to gluing the top onto the sideset.

Here's the soundbox in the go-bar deck, after the top has been glued and clamped.

TOMORROW, RANDALL WILL FINALLY HAVE A SOUNDBOX!!!

Later that evening . . . .

I removed the go-bar sticks and spreaders from inside the box, removed the box from the mold, and here is the result ---- A COMPLETED SOUNDBOX!!!!

Tomorrow, Randall will remove the overhanging top and back, so they are flush with the sides. Then it will be time to start the binding process.
