Hollowing the Back

Monday, July 16th, 2001

Since the last time I updated this, I spent about three or four days (off-and-on) hollowing out the maple back. It's done now. Basically, I just gouged out between the drilled depth holes until I reached the bottom of the holes. Then I used fingerplanes and scrapers to smooth it all out. I used my homemade thickness caliper to check the thicknesses of the various sections of the back.
