The Neck Is Glued!!!

July 14...Well, here it is.....the result of yesterday's anxiety....the firmly-affixed neck! To my surprise (and utter relief), things worked out well. The neck seems to be at the right angle and is in line with the centerline of the top! (Whew, is that a load off my mind!!!!)

I have drilled two 5/16" holes, 1" deep into the neckblock, for two dowels which lock the neck into place. In this photo, you can also see the two shims I needed to place into the slot, because of a slightly inaccurately-cut slot. (Luckily for me, most of the visible portions of the shims will be covered by the binding to come later.)

Here, I've placed the fingerboard and bridge onto the neck and top, just to get an idea of what my mandolin will look like.

To the right, you can see what my neck angle looks like.

(By the way, that black blob you see in the background is my mandolin-making advisor, Maggie, observing from her perch in the window.)
