July 14...Well,
here it is.....the result of yesterday's anxiety....the firmly-affixed
neck! To my surprise (and utter relief), things worked out
well. The neck seems to be at the right angle and is in line
with the centerline of the top! (Whew,
is that a load off my mind!!!!) |

I have drilled
two 5/16" holes, 1" deep into the neckblock, for two
dowels which lock the neck into place. In this photo, you
can also see the two shims I needed to place into the
slot, because of a slightly inaccurately-cut slot. (Luckily for
me, most of the visible portions of the shims will be covered
by the binding to come later.) |

Here, I've placed the fingerboard and bridge onto
the neck and top, just to get an idea of what my mandolin
will look like.
To the right, you can see what my neck angle
looks like.
(By the way, that black blob you see in the background
is my mandolin-making advisor, Maggie, observing from her perch
in the window.)
